Bangithapal is originally called as benki thapal, it was the only path linking Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala, during British days. The post used to be carried on horse back and the thapal was sorted using fire in this spot, hence the name benki thapal(Kannada). It is a Protected national Park and the scenery is wonderful. The trek route starts from here and ends up in silent valley, it is a 3 day Trek route.

hey thats really cool man.. seeing your description about leech bites and stuff..i thought this was either shillong or somewhere in the North East.. Unbelievably good.. is this karnataka? The only part that i have explored in karnataka is the Coorg(madikeri) section and the western coast.. Gokarna- Beach trekking. I am an ardent trekker and have been on quite a bit of them.. Have been following your blog for quite some time.. you are doing good man.. :) Keep posting.
